Over 1,100 miles of coastline on one side, the Sierra Nevada on the other, and a sprawl of rivers, lakes, and reservoirs in between, California asks only what kind of fishing you want. Closer in, bay and nearshore guides work San Francisco Bay, Monterey Bay, and the kelp forests off Orange County for California Halibut, Calico Bass, Rockfish, and Lingcod. Whatever your appetite for open ocean, there's a charter sized to it.

A guide earns their fee in California by cutting through complexity, the ecosystems are varied and the regulations are famously intricate. They bring the specialized gear, the live bait, and the hard-won knowledge of where fish were yesterday and where they'll be tomorrow.
