  We had such an incredible time crabbing at Yaquina Bay Charters.It was the perfect, chill family outing for my husband, my sister and her husband, and my 8-year-old niece. We spent the day aboard the Crackerjack, and the atmosphere on the water was so relaxed and enjoyable. Seeing the excitement on my niece’s face every time we pulled up a trap was absolutely priceless—it’s a memory we’ll be talking about for a long time. A huge thank you to Captain Jerald and his fantastic female assistants for making the day so special. They were professional, patient, and made sure everyone in our group—from the adults to the kids—had a great time and felt involved in the action. It’s clear the whole team really knows these waters and is passionate about what they do. If you’re looking for a fun, hands-on adventure in Newport, we couldn’t recommend them enough. We left with full hearts and a great haul!

  My family went on a 5 hour near shore on Gracie K with Captain Jack and Colton. The crew made our trip so much fun and made sure everyone was taken care of and caught their limits of rock fish. Even the smaller kids had a blast. It will truly be a memory i will treasure forever.

  I should start this out by saying that I barely ever leave a negative review for any business. In fact, this might be the first one I’ve ever left. However, I thought our day was so bad that it deserved a review. We took the crabbing tour with Captain Eric and his deckhand today on the Spindrift. This is definitely an unpopular opinion based on other reviews, but we had a tough day on the high seas. We were given a brief overview at the beginning of the trip of the basics. From that point on, there was basically zero information. When we got out there, the deckhand didn’t really explain what was happening. She started pulling crabs out of the pot without asking if anyone wanted to help. She was very brash and didn’t explain much of anything. We had four kids with us that didn’t learn a thing. The waves were insanely intense and a decent portion of the 14 of us on the boat started feeling sick after the first few pots. Multiple people were throwing up. I don’t blame this on the crew in any way, but possibly warning people of the conditions would’ve been helpful. The crew did not acknowledge the sick people whatsoever and I overheard her saying that they “don’t turn back for sick people”. While I understand that people pay for the trip, I think it would’ve been helpful to check on whether people were ready to turn back or not with the amount of people that weren’t feeling well. The deckhand asked several times how many crab everyone wanted and seemed taken aback when we just said we’d take a few apiece. We offered to give up a lot of our crab to other people to turn back toward the end, which ultimately worked out well for everyone. Im guessing we pulled between 12 and 15 pots and everyone left the boat happy with their catch amount. Lastly, in hindsight, it’s pretty crazy that they didn’t put lifejackets on people. The deck hand had to mention to one of the men that was throwing up overboard not to bend over too far. We had young kids and the swells were so high. As a parent and in hindsight, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t ask for lifejackets, but it should’ve just been assigned based on the swells. Someone could’ve so easily gone overboard. Again…my fault for not asking. I know sea sickness can’t be blamed on the crew, but the way they handled the entire day from start to finish, whether it be with the people that weren’t feeling well or just explaining what was happening on the boat was a complete disappointment. It sounds like based on a lot of other reviews that people had a wonderful time with their crew but that unfortunately, was not our experience. The sea was angry that day, but the deckhand…angrier. 🙄

  Yaquina Bay Charters had the friendliest crew of any boat company I have used! Not only did the crew make the day enjoyable, but everyone on the boat caught their limits of rockfish. Along with lingcod and crab, we now have enough seafood to feed us for our week’s vacation. I absolutely will use this company for future fishing trips.
