Green River Tailwater
About this float trip
The seven miles below Flaming Gorge Dam, known as the A section, hold one of the densest trout populations of any river in the country, and the water is clear enough that you can watch fish refuse your fly from a drifting boat. A trail runs the whole length on river left, so this is also one of the rare tailwaters where wade anglers and floaters both have full access.

Best time to go
April through October. Tailwater flows keep it fishable nearly year round.

Before you go
Know before you go
- Flows are controlled by dam releases and change with little notice. Check the schedule the morning you go.
- The launch at the dam is small and gets congested. Go early on summer weekends.
- A Utah fishing license is required, and special regulations apply on this section.
