Offshore / Deep Sea in Georgia

Georgia stretches from cold Appalachian trout streams in the north to tidal marsh and open Atlantic in the south, and the guided fishing covers every mile between. A hundred miles of barrier islands and marsh grass, cut by creeks that flood and drain with the tide: redfish, flounder, and speckled trout country, best fished light-tackle with a guide who knows the maze. Offshore, the boats chase king and Spanish mackerel, cobia, and tarpon when the migrations pass, or drop baits on artificial reefs and live bottom for snapper and grouper. Same state, entirely different fishing.

Then there's the blackwater: South Georgia's dark, tannin-stained rivers and the Okefenokee Swamp, where chain pickerel, warmouth, bowfin, and catfish live in water that looks like steeped tea. It's wild country that punishes guesswork and rewards a guide who has spent years in it.
